excerpt from the introduction to the 1997 book The Problem of Abortion
- Excerpts
from the Supreme Court of Canada’s decisions in R. v. Morgentaler (1988) and Winnipeg Child and Family Services v.
D.F.G. (1997)
Learning Objectives
In this session you will:
- Consider
the ethical and legal issues surrounding the issue of abortion
- Consider
the legal and moral status of a fetus
- Consider
the idea of personhood and its relevance to the issue of abortion
- Consider
the problem of ‘maternal-fetal conflicts’
Article Summaries
- Article
summaries will be accepted until Monday,
Feb. 17, 2003.
- The
due date for Article Summaries is later than normal because there will be
a second Ethics/Humanities/Health Law session during the Women’s Health
course. (This second session is tentatively scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10
from 11-12:30). A second set of
readings will be distributed soon for that session. Your article summary may be based on a
reading for this set of readings or the second one.
A reminder: the
due date for the next short paper has been changed from Jan. 31, 2003 to Feb. 10, 2003.
