I
have been working with web pages since about 1994, working
with the early Mosaic and Netscape browsers. As time went
on and my skills matured, I started offering my services as
a web designer and consultant. I have been doing so professionally
since 1996. My areas of expertise are wide ranging. I have
been involved in live streaming video presentations, database
development, online conferencing, and other such projects.
Until
2000, I was part of the web development team at Memorial University,
in addition to various freelance projects I am committed to.
I currently do work both on a national and international basis
as a freelance developer for different clients.
I have
a few ongoing projects, and I try out new ideas here on this
page. I was until February of 1999 with STEM~Net, as a webmaster
for the SchoolNet News
Network (SNN). I left that position to go as an exchange
student to Ireland. I have also worked on Web page development
for the Department of Political
Science at Memorial University.
These
days, I pursue freelance work and offer network and web consulting
services.

European Public Administration Network
This is the web site for the European
Public Administration Network. Its a fairly complex
site, with user polling and message boards built in.
It also provides a great deal of documentation in pdf
form. This allows for the online publication of application
forms, papers and other such materials.

Jean Monnet Summer School on European Integration
This page was done as a smaller project
intended to put the relevant information about the school
online. I update it periodically
with new photos from the annual school class. The design
is rather new, so I have not been asked to change it
just yet, although greater interactivity has been requested.

University of Limerick - Department of Law
The Department of Law inquired if I
would be able to produce something for them along the
lines of what had been done for the Department of Government
and Society, and I was happy to oblige. This offset
design is a little different from your typical web page,
as I intended. I still think it needs a little more
life, and am addressing that now. For the moment though,
I am pleased with the result. I hope to have a chance
to work on other departmental pages - a design trend
seems to be falling into place.

Administrative Systems Group - Memorial University of Newfoundland
This particular project was taken up
during the summer of 1999, as an employee of the Web
Development group of Memorial University. I implemented
an auto-update system which seems to have been well
received on campus. Being able to fill out a form that
automatically creates a web page is a very pleasing
feature.

Student Computing - Memorial University of Newfoundland
I can only claim partial credit for
this one - it was more of an orchestrated effort between
the members of the Web Development Group. My credits
on this site are the graphics and the final look and
feel. I implemented an auto-update system for these
pages as well. The signpost I designed made it's way
into several bookmarks, posters, and brochures as well.
It was quite well relieved. It's big and it's
useful. If you're a student at MUN, you'll like this
site.

University of Limerick - Department of Government and Society
This project I undertook during my
European exchange to Ireland from February to June.
The Department of Government and Society encompasses
Sociology, Political Science, Law, and History. I couldn't
have done this one without the assistance of the photography
department - which supplied me with my photos of the
campus. Thanks to the staff as well, who were always
happy to lend a hand - it was much appreciated. I'll
definitely be returning - Ireland is like a home away
from home.

Centre for European Studies at the University of Limerick
I actually had to do library research
to make this page come to life - I needed a mediaeval
map of Europe to get the effect that was being looked
for - I think I worked out nicely - very low key, yet
professional. Only having four categories to deal with
gave me more flexibility than is usually the case. I
could afford to be a bit more graphical than usual.

European Community Studies Association - Canada
The European Community Studies Association
- Canada (or ECSA for short) is a smaller cog in a really
big wheel. There are several dozen European studies
associations worldwide. This site was a new design concept
I tried - it makes interesting use of tables and just
a touch of Java. I try to use Java sparingly, as I design
for all platforms - and Java is erratic at times. I'm
still working on this one - look for updates.

The Young Liberals of Newfoundland and Labrador
A "quickie" job leading up
to election day - contains a great deal of useful information
on the youth movement and the Young Liberals in general.
Most of the content and logos were supplied, so it wasn't
all that difficult to fit into a design - after all,
red was bound to be a default colour - couldn't very
well use blue now, could I?
update
Aug 2000- This page has
been changed, although it does use some of the graphics
I original designed - the important thing though is
that I didn't do the new page - it's pretty awful.

The SchoolNet News Network
One of my most complicated projects
- ever. I was hired as it's Webmaster/Graphic designer
and I worked there for 9 months. I redeveloped the existing
site, creating a whole new graphic look and layout.
The concept and look are my creations, although the
web designer hired as my replacement occasionally makes
additions. The main look you see is my doing however.
A sidebar has been altered since my departure, but that's
about it. It is presented in French and English (there's
a design nightmare) and totals over 150 pages. I also
did a great deal of video post-production for this page,
although unfortunatly some of the more complex video
editing techniques are no longer in use. I'm quite proud
of this one - check it out.
update
Aug 2001- After three
years, this design has been replaced. The new one is
nice, but very simple in comparision and function. If
you want to see the older versions which bear my design
stamp, try the "back issues" section.
update
Sept 2001- my first web
page to make it in the Globe
and Mail! A write up was done on the page, as well
as some other projects we worked on. Click on the image
to read teh article.

Canada/European Union Exchange Programme
The CEUEP is a project I undertook
for the Political Science department at Memorial University of Newfoundland. It included an online
simulation, which was a great success.
This is the new design I implemented
in March of 2000. Its due for some changes again as
the simulation starts up, but I suspect the lok will
stay the same for some time. I like this particular
design, although it is graphically intensive

The Microcomputer Workstation Resource Centre - Version
1
This one I did in 1997 - it's scheduled
for replacement some time in the near future. This one
has quite a bit of useful info - The MWRC is a great
place to do special work - I haven't found anything
like it elsewhere.

The Microcomputer Workstation Resource Centre -
Version 2
Guess who they got to do the update?
I decided that there was no time like the present -
seeing as I was on the payroll and all, and set to work
upgrading the site top a new design - after all as long
as my name is on it, it reflects on my skills. The secondary
pages have some very nice and very tricky graphical
effects - have a look-see.
update
Aug 2000- Alas, this page
is no more. The name of the centre changed, and the
design was discarded.

I used to be the webmaster for the Newfoundland
and Labrador page of the Canadian Red Cross Society
until the national office assumed responsibility for
all Red Cross pages nationwide. This page was my first
design project outside of my personal home page. I did
this one in 1996.

The frames model has some appeal to me,
so I made use of it in the design of this page for a professor
in the Political Science Department at Memorial
University of Newfoundland. |

This was what the stylish web page looked
like in 1995. My previous incarnation lasted for about
a year before I finally got around to changing it. |
