Welcome to Brian's Video project page. I have done extensive work in webcasting. What is webcasting exactly? Basically it involves streaming media over the web. I do this in two ways

- On occasion through live events (I used
to do this with Schoolnet Canada)
- Prerecorded events which I store for
   later use.

The first of these two is a technically tricky and difficult process. The second is comparatively easy one. I hope to keep a collection of such projects here

Newfoundland & Irish Quickcams

These aren't mine - I just enjoy watching them and having them all in one place. Why not check them out for an few interesting view of St. John's?

The OZFM Skycam pivots to take in a view of the city and "the Narrows" and looks out to the sea.

Personal Projects & Clips

My old web page had a few interesting clips of Newfoundland and Labrador. Until I have the opportunity to repost them and other new material, I am posting the older realvideo format here.

A look at the Narrows of St. John's, Newfoundland.

This is a little videoclip of St. John's I did in Realvideo. It is a look at the view towards the Atlantic and the passage leading into the harbour, taken from Signal Hill. .

Ireland from Above

The first time I flew to Ireland was in 1999. I happened to have a laptop and a quickcam at the time, so I took a few video captures from my seat on the plane. It shows Ireland at about 6am as we pass over it on our way to London.

Professional Projects & Clips

The Schoolnet News Network was one of my first projects as a full time webmaster. I was the site developer from May of 1998 till my departure in February of 1999 to return to school in Ireland. The site has been remade since then, with the exception of the logo - which I designed in 1998.

One thing I particularly enjoyed about working there was the opportunity to do work in webcasting and video post-production. What I didn't enjoy were the tools and the budget. Still, with a camcorder, no tripod and pretty lousy secondhand microphones, we managed to turn out some advanced stuff at the time.

I do take particular pride in the CNN-style watermarks and the logo in the corner. This was all done in Adobe Premiere 5.0. The process is a little tedious and somewhat complicated, but much easier than it used to be. After I left the job the video work stopped - a shame really. It was one of the only low-budget news sites on the Internet turning out such stuff on a shoestring budget.

Below are some of the clips I can claim as my own work. They are archived in the "Back Issues" section of the SNN site.
