Hi there! My name is Brian Lake and I am an MA student at Acadia University. I am also a graduate of Memorial University of Newfoundland in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada.

Would you like to say hello? My ICQ status is currently:

ICQ #13611240

Here's a little bit about me, updated with all the latest happenings:

    • One of my obsessions is bodybuilding. I've been working out consistently since I was fourteen. It's a great way to beat stress and keep in shape. I currently work out at the Acadia gym, which is in desperate need of an air conditioning system
    • You need to combine a good bodybuilding routine with a good cardio workout (insert lewd joke here) so I enjoy cross country running. Newfoundland terrain is great for this - hills, hills and more hills.
    • Music is always fun. I'm a fan of Celtic music, and I play a tin whistle to boot - although how good I am is open to debate
    • I have a rudimentary understanding of Irish Gaelic - I studied it for 8 months and have a very small vocabulary to show for it. I'm making slow progress.
    • A little bit of Kung-fu never hurt anybody - much. I've been involved in it, but haven't made too much progress. Learned a great deal though - for instance, I have an extremely high pain tolerance.
    • I can now sail a gaff rigged schooner - I sailed for a summer on the J&B, an authentic sailing schooner out of St. Johns. I'm only a Sunday sailor though...
    • I've tried fencing with MUN SCA (Society for Creative Anarchism - Mediaeval stuff). great fun.
    • Hiking and camping are two activities I try to do as often as possible.
    • Laser sailing - (Long Pond Splash Facility). Small boat + lotsa wind = fun.
    • Paintball. Nothing more fun than being shot at by your friends.
    • Youth Parliament, (Nfld & Lab.) I was an active member for about 3 years, I'm now an alumni.
    • St. John Ambulance. A good organization to volunteer for. If you want to work on an ambulance crew, join up.
    • Lifeguarding. I was a lifeguard from 1994-96. I also taught Bronze Cross during this time.
    • I am also a first aid instructor with The Canadian Red Cross Society. I've been teaching First Aid for about seven years now. I hope to continue in Ireland.
    • I also volunteer as a member of the Red Cross ERT (Emergency Response Team) which deals with small and large scale disasters throughout Canada and the world.

Until recently I was working as a teaching assistant during my masters degree, as well as continuing to work on various projects for universities and academia based web sites in Ireland. My time In Nova Scotia has ended, and I am living in Newfoundland for the remainder of the year to finish my MA paper. I am also hoping to push back some boundaries in the field of web design, and brush up on my programming skills and Irish Gaelic.
