I believe that the participation of faculty members in academic, professional, ceremonial, and social meetings and events within the Faculty of Education and university-wide stimulates dialogue between faculty, staff, and students, and supports the development of a positive community environment within the faculty and the university as a whole.
In addition to committee responsibilities, I have dedicated a significant amount of time to providing assistance to my students and colleagues in matters that, while not directly related to my teaching or research agenda, are essential to the advancement of our faculty, the university, and my disciplinary area.

Blogging as Academic Service
I highly value my connections with the broader community outside of academe. I have endeavoured to use my Post-Secondary Education Blog (http://post-secondary.blogspot.com) as a mechanism for sharing ideas and engaging with a broadly-based audience. I believe that blogging provides me with an opportunity to extend my contribution to knowledge production and intellectual discourse far beyond the confines of the university campus.
Over time, the content that I have added to my blog has developed into a publically accessible repository of local, national, and international news items, research reports, podcasts, and commentaries that highlight contemporary and emergent issues, practices, and problems in the field of post-secondary education. It has raised my profile as an academic to the benefit of my work, as well as that of the Faculty of Education and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
