Beginner Foil Classes — Fall 2019
Times:

Two classes will be taught in parallel. 

Tuesdays 8:00--900PM

Thursdays 8:00--9:00PM

In addition, everyone taking the class is welcome to practice at our regular practice times.  See below.

Dates:

Sept 16 through Nov 28, excluding

Place:

MUN Field House.

Registration: Come to class.
Instructors: Theodore Norvell
Equipment: Grippy, non-marking indoor sneakers, track pants or tights, T-shirt. We supply the fencing gear. Shorts must not be worn for safety reasons.
Prerequisite Ages 14 and up. (See below for programs for younger kids)
Cost: Free with club membership (see below)
Weather: Class will be cancelled if MUN or the Works is shut down for snow, hurricane, or other circumstances. Check the MUN cancellation page and the MUFC home page for cancellation notices.
Kids Fencing
Fencing for ages 8 to 13 is now through the Allez! Fencing Club.
Club Membership — Fall 2019
Membership cost:
  • MUN full time students: $50 per term.
  • All others: $75 per term.

Please bring cash once you are sure you will be sticking with it.

A September to September provincial/national membership is required. Register here.

Training Times and places:
  • Tuesdays 8:00pm to 9:50pm at the MUN Field House.
  • Thursdays 8:00pm to 9:50pm at the MUN field house.
  • All members are welcome at all training times.

Safety:

MUFC is committed to creating a safe environment for fencing. You fence at your own risk and your safety is your personal responsibility. Not withstanding this, you must respect the safety policies of the club and the coaches' right to forbid you from fencing under conditions that they deem unsafe.

General saftey rule.

  • It is the responsibilty of every club member to ensure that they, their opponent or partner, and all others are safe.

Specific safety rules.

  • Masks, jackets, and gloves must be worn whenever swords are crossed.
  • Masks, jackets, and gloves must be in good repair.
  • Masks must pass a 12kg punch test for all weapons.
  • If fencing with epees or electric foils, a 350N plastron must be worn unless a 350N or better jacket is worn.
  • Legs must be covered to below the knees. For epee, completely.
  • Men must wear althetic cups.
  • Fencers must ensure that the space behind themselves and their partners is free of obstacles.
  • Anyone crossing a strip must take responsibility for staying well out of the way.
  • All masks must be in good shape. Masks with tangs must be secured with a strap.
