KB, on "Scattered and Small, but still King."

The Lion King, by Disney has many themes that generate many lessons and influences on its main audience; children. While it has darker subject matter such as
betrayal, death and violence, I believe it promotes positive and useful teachings to its viewers. The song I chose to depict the theme of self belief and repentance is "Scattered and Small", by Amelia Curran. This song promotes an underlying message of self
perseverance, repentance and hope. While this song tells a story of self-growth and courageous maturation, it also shows fears and the development into an individual who can face those fears and succeed above them. These themes relate to Simba in many
ways, from his discovery of his purpose in life, to his facing of fears and challenges. Simba is an ideal protagonist in relation to both the song and the movie. When the movie opens, Simba is a cub and immediately we notice that he is a curious character
who likes to take risks. However, we see how his actions have consequences, which lead to not only his being blamed for his father's death, but for his own disappearance. While having a fear of what was happening back at the Pride Lands, Sirnba had a deeper self conflict that questioned his purpose in life and if he should try to fulfill it. By meeting Nala through a fight, he discovers that he is supposed to be King and that his family needs him. An important element in The Lion King, is Rafiki who is a very spiritually character who also prophecies. He convinces Simba during a spiritual interaction with his Father that he must return to Pride Rock, face his fears and fulfill his destiny. By returning to his family and taking his place as ruler, Simba makes a transformation from a fearful, confused lion to a courageous, proud King. Amelia's song reflects Simba's transformation from this 'scattered and small' lion, to this heroic King. It discusses fear, spiritual confusion, blame and self realization. While it tells about the challenges in life, it focuses on putting your fears in the past and focusing on your optimistic future.
