MM, on "Disney is the Devil"

For my video assignment I took the approach that some parents and religious
groups take, saying that Disney glorifies the occult. It is not an argument that I agree with
nor do I feel there is much grounds for the argument. In my video, all the clips are taken out of the context of their film. They are only showing a small portion of the story. If one were to focus on these parts of the story, then yes, Disney could be said to be putting great emphasis on magic and evil. However, these clips are depicting the villains. When viewed within the context of the whole film, one can see that the villain will be defeated in the end. Some parents may also argue that some of these images are frightening. For some children that might be true. For example, seeing the skeletons come to life in The Black Cauldron may be frightening to some children. I feel though that Disney films are a very safe environment for a child to see something scary. The scary villain will never win and there are always lighthearted moments and humor to balance out the frightening images. If only by depicting acts of magic, regardless of the context it is presented in,
religious groups and parents feel the occult is glorified, then they would have a right to
say so. There are many instances of magic being used in Disney films, often by the
villains by also by good characters as well.  In the video I used the song "Voodoo" by Godsmack. I used clips from several Disney films. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1 937), Fantasia (1940), Sleeping Beauty (1 959), The Black Cauldron (1 985), The Little Mermaid (1989), Aladdin (1992), and The Princess and the Frog (2009).
