SP, on "Lilo and Stitch: Weird, a Good Thing?"

Disney's film "Lilo & Stitch" is an animated movie that discusses the story of a young girl living in Hawaii, named Lilo, and an alien monster who escapes to earth, named Stitch, who both struggle with identity issues and alienation from society. This film presents various themes prevalent in society today. One of the major themes explored in this film is the theme of fitting in. Many characters in the movie struggle with seclusion by others and being described as "weird" or unusual, in particular Lilo and Stitch. The story follows Lilo's family, consisting of herself and her sister, who have had past family troubles along with the present conflict with a social worker, who adopt Stitch as their dog. Stitch has identity issues and struggles with fitting in, while Lilo struggles with alienation as well, she is also the only one who sees the good in Stitch. The movie ends with both characters' differences being viewed as beneficial and everyone lives happily ever after, together. The film Lilo and Stitch is a good example of Disney's constant presentation of "weird being a good thing and that not everyone has to fit in. This is prevalent in a lot of other Disney films including "Mulan". In the film, although Lilo and Stitch are different from society, we find ourselves relating to them and feeling bad for whatever negative events happen to them. This fan video discusses the recurring theme of fitting in using clips of Lilo and Stich with the song "We Only Come Out at Night' by the Smashing Pumpkins.
