JDS, on "Lilo and Stitch - Highway to Hell "

"Lilo and Stitch", in my opinion, is the best Disney cartoon ever made. It does things that no other Disney cartoon does, and explores territory which Disney usually avoids. It is a beautiful look at good and evil, and the grey areas where each side of morality crosses into the other. Stitch is "a monster", created for evil. His creator defines himself as an "evil genius". Yet both of these characters are heroes in the story. Lilo is a rather disturbed child who is nearly uncontrolable, yet it is her duty to enforce discipline and morality in Stitch. The Grand Council Woman and Captain Gantu are supposedly the leaders of the good guys, yet Gantu is a nearly psychotic monster, and the Council Woman is ready to throw Pleakly into prison with Jamba simply because he failed at his mission. Even Elvis is touted as being a "model citizen". "Lilo and Stitch" destroys the normally well-defined lines of Disney good and evil. For this reason I felt "Highway to Hell" was a terrific song to work with this movie. The song glorifies a descent into hell, eagerly rejecting all the "stop signs" and "speed limits" society imposes to impede the damnation. Therefore I find it relates well to the main characters' rejection of "good society" in preference to something far more out of line. As well, the high number of scene involving transportation within the movie lended itself well to the "Highway to Hell" chorus, giving me a lot of freedom of images to work with.
