Eileen's note (May 14)

Hi Everyone,

This is a follow-up to the session on "Dealing with Academic Misconduct". Several participants made a number of excellent suggestions during and following the session:

1. That a committee be formed to explore/address the topic of plagiarism at Memorial.

Volunteers: Kim Bell and Eileen Bragg expressed an interest in helping form a committee. John deBruyn and Nathan Rich both expressed a desire to contribute in some way but not be a full member of the committee.

2. That the topic be addressed in some publication at Memorial (i.e, Gazette, the News, etc)

.

Volunteers: Maureen Dunne has suggested that a special edition of the Instructional Development newsletter be compiled to explore the topic. Maureen has several ideas re content/contributions and can lead the initiative. Donna Hardy Cox has volunteered to write a one-page summary of the survey research on plagiarism.

3. That a survey be conducted at Memorial to assess the scope of the problem here.

Volunteers: Eileen Bragg is investigating the possibility and cost of conducting the survey.

If you are interested in getting involved in either one or more of the above or wish to correct any of the above, e-mail me your thoughts and ideas. I'd like to get together with interested parties over the next several weeks.

Thanks for all your great ideas,

Eileen
