Description:

This course is an introduction to current knowledge and scientific debate about the origins and development of the human species, based on fossil and archaeological evidence. Basic concepts relating to stratigraphy, dating techniques, taxonomy, biological variation, evolutionary theory etc. will be introduced to aid a critical examination of the current theories regarding human evolution and their expansion throughout the world.

Course Requirements:

The course will be presented as a series of lectures. Attendance is not mandatory, but you probably cannot expect to pass the class if you do not attend. The course grade will be calculated from one written assignment as well as a mid-term and final exam.

The due dates and mark weighting for the assignments and exams are as follows.

Assignment 1: 30% of final grade

Mid-Term Exam 35% of final grade

Final Exam 35% of final grade

Only a note from your medical doctor or your Dean of Studies will be accepted for late assignments and missed exams. Assignments submitted late will receive a 5% grade deduction per business day.
