1. Various Articles on reserve at library

Description:

This course is a survey of the prehistory of Newfoundland and Labrador which spans approximately 9000 years of human occupation in the region, from the entry of humans until the time of European contact. Attention will be paid to the interaction among several ethnic and cultural groups upon whose history the course focuses. We will also examine the legal and ethical issues governing archaeological conduct in the region. While both a reading and lecture course, students will be ask to undertake one large group project. Time will be allotted for work on this assignment during class. However, you should be prepared to spend significant time outside of the class to complete the assignment.

Course Requirements:

The course is a lecture course which includes a major research project. Attendance is not mandatory, but you probably cannot expect to pass the class if you do not attend. The course grade will be calculated from 2 class presentations, 1 in class exam and one written assignment.

The due dates and mark weighting for the assignments and exams are as follows.

Assignment 1: 45% of final grade

In Class Exam 25% of final grade

2 Presentations 15% X 2=30%

Only a note from your medical doctor or your Dean of Studies will be accepted for late assignments and missed exams. Assignments submitted late will receive a 5% grade deduction per business day.
