Prospective Research Members

Postdoctoral Fellows and/or Research Associates

A Postdoctoral Fellowship position may be available in fall 09. Please contact me with appropriate information.

Graduate Students

Memorial university offers programs leading to M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in chemistry. We welcome applications from prospective graduate students with interests in synthetic and structural coordination chemistry, with a specific emphasis on structural and magnetic studies of novel magnetic clusters and molecular magnets. Having our own SQUID magnetometer, with both DC and AC capability, places us in a position of great strength in this rapidly expanding area. A Saturn/AFC8 single crystal X-ray diffractometer is available for structural determinations, along with first rate facilities for NMR,IR, UV/Vis/NIR and mass spectral studies. Graduate stipends up to $20,000 can be expected depending on qualifications. Living expenses in St. John's are very reasonable and among the lowest in Canada. Please address enquiries to Dr. Thompson or to the Deputy Head, Graduate Studies at the above address.

Undergraduate Students

The NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) program provides funding for undergraduate students to work in a research setting for a 16 week period over the summer months. Interested potential summer undergraduate students who are eligible for NSERC awards should contact Dr. Thompson. Submission deadlines for the NSERC forms are usually in mid-January. Generous supplements to NSERC funding are available. Prospective honours (490A/B) students, or students wishing to apply for a non-NSERC position, are also encouraged to contact Dr. Thompson.
