SQUID Lab

Quantum Design SQUID MPMS5S Magnetometer

Memorial University has one of a small number of SQUID magnetometers in Canada, and the facility has been instrumental over the last ten years in providing magnetic data for Canadian researchers, which has lead to an emerging emphasis nationally in the area of molecular based magnetism. One major advantage at Memorial is the supply of liquid helium through the Physics Department, which reprocesses the helium boil-off from all superconducting magnet based systems in Science. With both DC and AC capability, the group is well-positioned to make exciting contributions to the rapidly expanding field of molecular magnetism. Collaborations both internally and externally are ongoing.

Room Temperature Faraday Balance

While not as versatile as the SQUID, the room temperature Faraday magnetic balance is useful for obtaining quick measures of magnetic susceptibility at room temperature. Interesting samples can then always be run on the SQUID if desired.
