NOTE: The "alternating tandem reels" are the same as those used by Barry Skelton in "The Dolphin Book" and by Barry Priddey in "The Flight of the Falcon". In both cases in this dance, the woman leads the way out to the end of the reel and then she follows the man back into the centre of the set.

This dance is inscribed to Noreen MacLennan in honour of her service to Scottish Country Dancing in St. John's (Newfoundland) and to celebrate her award of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society Scroll in 1999.

The Bervie Braes are the clifftop meadows on the southside of Stonehaven Harbour. They form the southern boundary of Stonehaven, where Noreen is originally from.

The market Square (bars 9-16) is a variation on a figure from "Bonnie Brux".

The movements of the dance reflect the ornate designs used to illuminate a scroll and are reminiscent of fireball swinging - a Hogmanay tradition still practised in Stonehaven.
