A 40 bar Jig for Four Couples

  1 - 8

Reels of three on the sides. To start the reels, 1st couple cast off and dance a reel of three on their own side of the dance; 2nd couple cross down through third place to dance a reel of three on the opposite side; 3rd couple, giving right shoulder on the man's side and left shoulder on the lady's side, dance a reel of three on their own side of the dance. All join nearer hands with partner where possible.

At end, 1st and 3rd couples cast into place; 2nd couple finish on opposite side.

   

  9 - 12
1st and 2nd couples set and dance "petronella in tandem" into the centre of the set.

  13 - 16
Repeat bars 9-12 to finish with 1st couple in second place on the opposite side and 2nd couple in first place on own side.
   

  17 - 22
1st and 2nd couples turn partner with right hands half way round and dance right hands across once round.

  23 - 24
1st couple turn with right hands half way, to finish with hands joined in promenade hold facing third man, while 2nd couple, giving right hands, cross over to finish in first place on own side.
   

  25 - 32
1st couple, with hands joined in promenade hold, dance a reel of three across the dance with 3rd couple, giving right shoulder to 3rd man to begin. 1st couple finish in the centre of the set between 3rd couple, facing down, 3rd couple finish in their original place facing up.
   

  33 - 36
1st woman turns 3rd man with the right hand while 1st man turns 3rd woman with the left hand. On bars 35-36, 1st couple cross down (no hands) into third place on their own side of the dance (and stay facing out) while 3rd couple dance up into second place.

  37 - 40
1st woman turns 4th woman with the right hand one and one half times while 1st man turns 4th man with the left hand once and one half times to finish in fourth place on their own side. 4th couple finish in third place.
