My Interests...

I am currently working with Dr’s Paul Snelgrove (Cold Ocean Chair, Ocean Sciences Center, Memorial University) and Pierre Pepin (Biomathematician, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre) to complete my MSc. My specific area of interest concerns shifts in Community Diversity of Ichthyoplankton in Coastal Newfoundland. I am working with a data set which spans from 1982 – 2002 and my goal is to identify trends in the data which may be attributed to variations in sampling devices, space, time and environment.

My undergraduate degree (BSc Honours Marine Biology) was also completed here at Memorial University. I again worked with Dr’s Snelgrove and Pepin to complete my Honours thesis which focused on calibration of the Continuous Underway Fish Egg Sampler (CUFES) to Bongo Nets for collection of the eggs of American Plaice (Hippoglossoides platessoides).

During my undergraduate degree I also had the pleasure of studying at the Bonne Bay Field Station in Norris Point, Newfoundland. I strongly recommend these courses to anyone who is eligible to take them. Bonne Bay offers many excellent opportunities for students to not only further their academic endeavours but also to do some excellent hiking, scuba diving, sea kayaking etc. while surrounded by Gros Morne National Park.
