My Interests....

I am a Masters Student currently working with Dr. Paul Snelgrove at the Ocean Sciences Center of Memorial University of Newfoundland.  My academic interests focus around management and conservation of marine species.  I am currently working a component of a large connectivity project on the northern coast of Newfoundland.  My research focuses on the dispersal potential of eggs and larvae of three native species, including: shorthorn sculpin (Myoxocephalus scorpius), Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua), and rainbow smelt (Osmerus mordax).  Eventually linking spatio-temporal egg and larval distributions within Trinity Bay with oceanographic data will provide essential information pertinent to conservation initiatives such as marine protected areas.

I received an undergraduate diploma in Aquatic Resources and Biology (First Class Honours) at St. Francis Xavier University. During my undergraduate I worked at the Comparative Biomechanics Laboratory with Dr. Edwin DeMont. In my junior year I participated in a joint university, industry, and government project assessing the impact of seismic energy on the kinematic capacities of stage one snow crab (Chionoecetes opilio) larvae. My honours research focused on the regional scaling of American lobster (Homarus americanus) swimmerettes highlighting potential implications for locomotion and fecundity. During these research ventures I used high-speed film and allometric analysis to understand the functional kinematic processes involved in the locomotion of these species.

On a personal note I hail from the bustling metropolis of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. P.E.I is a beautiful province and I strongly suggest you check it out, the beaches are amazing and people are very nice!

 Cheers!
