Trails of the Avalon by Bridget Neame and Peter Gard.
This hike is also one of the fabulous trails on the East Coast Trail Association webpage.
It was a hazy sunny day, about 25 degrees C, little wind. The hike starts at the end of the paved road near the Government Wharf, about an hour and a halfs drive west of St. John's on Route 1 to Sunnyside.
The hike is fairly easy with lots of scenery on the way. The trail has been undergoing renovations lately, with some boardwalks and a camping area has been installed. The start of the hike is a bit wet in spots where there are no boardwalks.
At the top of the hill (345 metre), you can see Trinity Bay, Placentia Bay,
and The Burin Peninsula. The smoke on the near-horizon is from the Come-by-Chance
Oil Refinery, the only blight on an otherwise beautiful vista.
Lots of blueberries on this walk.
This page still needs some edits. Click on any picture for a medium sized
version. As soon as I figure out a nice method, I'll make the larger version
available.
