Trails of The Avalon Hike, Grey Man's Beard - June 1999

These pictures were taken on a hike to Grey Man's Beard, a hike that starts off Portugal Cove and goes along the top of several hills and ends at a field in the area of Hogan's Pond.

This is a really beautiful hike. Lots of scenery, fairly easy walk. Excellant view of Portugal Cove and Bell Island. There are pleanty of berry-picking spots along the trail (hope that's not a secret !).

It was a warm summer day, slighly hazy and about 25 deg C (The dog's name is Kieley :) ).

While not an "official Hike", hike details of the area are available in the book, Trails of the Avalon by Bridget Neame and Peter Gard.

There also some fabulous trails on the East Coast Trail Association webpage. I believe this hike is part of the East Coast Trail system, which encompasses all of the Eastern edge of the Avalon Penisula, Newfoundland, Canada (just in case you didn't know where that was :)

This page still needs some edits. Click on any picture for a larger version. As soon as I find a nice way, I'll provide access to the larger versions.
