| A generic roster of Austrian and French armies somewhere in Northern Italy. This was the second of two games with a similar scenario: the French are trying to keep open some river crossings upon which the Austrians are advancing. In the first game, we played 3 on 3, with the battlefield divided into 3 separate areas: centre and the two flanks. Each area was run as a concurrent game, using Phil Barker's Horse, Foot & Gun, which are rules currently being developed, I believe. On the second game, we had four players, so the centre and flank were played. Both games were part of the Diplomacy miniatures campaign, and the pictures here are from the second game, which represented the Battle of the Ionian Sea between Spain and Italy in Spring 1937. |

| To give you an idea of the vast
scale these 2mm armies represent, the game was played on an 8 by 4 foot
table, much of which can be seen above and each stand represents a brigade(!).
The point of view of the above photo is from the Austrian right.
In the centre, can be seen the main force of both armies while far off,
over some hills, to the left is the Austrian right flank. To the
right of this picture, across the river, Austrians face down the french
left flank, but for this game, that flank was "inactive". The Austrian
objective in this game was to secure crossing across the river and the
approaches far to the left to the river crossings.
