South, west. To the west of the hill, a Zis-3 76.2mm lies unmanned after its crew was blown away by Joe's Sturmgeschutzes. For reasons unbeknowst to the rest of us, John felt it necessary to have the crew of this gun push it forward. Joe bit.

Top of hill view from north. Another picture of the 57mm atop the hill. By the time of this photo, the Germans had taken out three guns and the reinforcements from 45th Tank Regiment had been activated and were on the way. Historically, at the time of Kursk, this regiment had a large number of lend lease Lee/Grants and a quantity of SU-76s. Here an Airfix M-3 Lee/Grant (I've no idea which turret would be historically correct for Soviet lend-lease vehicles) trundles around the east side of the hill to hit the German assault guns that are over to the right of this photo (the west of the table). This tank is a veteran of the old Australian/Japanese game from nearly 20 years ago! The turret of another Lee/Grant (and similar Australian veteran) can just be seen in the bottom right corner of the photo.

South of hill. SU-76s of the 45th Tank Regiment pass by John's infantry. All are on their way to secure the hill which is threatened by Joe's Stugs. SU-76Ms (Unimodel kits, crossbar added, Millicast and AB crews). The figures are Revell, with the small single figure platoon commander stand being an ESCI figure.

West side of hill. One of the SU-76s moves into a blocking position.

West side of hill. FIRE! An Su takes on a Stug at close range. Plenty of trunion tilt here! Trunion tilt is the tilting of the gun platform to one side like the Stug is here. It's something real life AFV commanders avoid like the plague because the hash marks in the sight graticule for range don't end up causing the gun to elevate to the correct range. In a wargame, though, with the ground scale generally smaller than vehicle scale, we let the players get away with it!
