We Are The World

I chose the films, “Pocahontas” and “The Lion King” to show the emphasis Disney places on animal and nature spirituality. The connection between humans and nature/animals is shown mainly with scenes from Pocahontas. She feels a deep connection to her environment and the animals. She attempts to get John to see her point of view. She believes that humans and nature are one, not separate. I used scenes from The Lion King to show the unison of animals. I wanted to show the emphasis Disney places on love and unity between animals themselves. While animals are wild and sometimes savage animals, Disney always portrays them in a magical and spiritual way. I chose the song “We’re the World” by Michael Jackson to explain the unity I was trying to portray. The lyrics “There comes a time when we heed a certain call, when the world must come together as one, there are people dying, and it's time to lend a hand to life, the greatest gift of all” helped me get the message across that Disney places so much importance on family, love and unity, whether it be between animals, humans on nature.
