Arrival in St. John's

St. John’s airport is small, user-friendly, and very close to town. Unless you are renting a car during your visit, the best way to reach your hotel is to hire a cab, which are virtually always available immediately as you walk out of the building, as detailed in this map.

However, we will do our very best to organize taxi-pooling and/or offer you (free) rides, depending on the availability of our volunteers. If you would like to take advantage of this, please email us with your flight information (flight number and expected arrival time). We will confirm to you a few days before your travel so you can enjoy a stress-free arrival.

Commute to the conference

The pre-conference workshop and the conference itself are located in adjacent buildings on campus (Science building for the workshop, and Arts building for the conference), as detailed on this campus map.

The workshop will be held in the Digital Learning Centre, in SN4022/4030, on the 4th floor of the Science building (enter the building through the archway leading to the parking lot at the centre of the building). There is an elevator around the corner to your right after you walk in; the staircase is right in front of you.

The main conference will take place in room A1046, and the poster session immediately outside of this room, in the Arts Atrium.

  • If you are staying at the Guv’nor Inn & Pub, you are within 10 mins from the conference site, with directions indicated on the campus map.
  • If you are staying at Hometel (or any hotel or B&B downtown), the best way to commute to the conference is either by cab or via our public Metrobus system.
    • Line 10 is the most straightforward, with several stops alongside the route, as indicated on this route map.
    • Else you can take this alternative route, which however requires transfer between two buses (3 from downtown and then 5 on Elizabeth Avenue)
  • Again here, there will also be the possibility to arrange for rides if one of our volunteers can accommodate your needs. Please email us if you wish to explore that possibility.

In case you decided to stay in any other part of town, or if you have any further question about getting around town please email us for more information.

Further information on going around St. John’s, including phone numbers for several cab companies can be found here.

Above everything, if you need information, you can simply ask people around. Friendliness defines our city, and there’s always someone willing to help out!
